National Memorial
One of Oklahoma City's newest attractions is probably the most cherished.
The Oklahoma City National Memorial was dedicated on April 19, 2000,
five years after the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.
The Memorial is a tribute to the victims, survivors, rescue workers
and others. It stands on a three-acre site that includes remnants of
the original building destroyed in 1995 by the largest act of terrorism
ever committed on U.S. soil. Also scheduled to open in 2001 is the 24,000
square-foot Oklahoma City National Memorial Center, which contains a
museum to provide visitors with an experience beyond what they can see
at the memorial monument.
